The song opens with John Travolta mimicking the vocalist from British rock group The Sweet, their song Ballroom Blitz to be exact, and though Travolta is hardly in Olivia Newton-John's league as a vocalist, he takes the Sonny Bono role to Olivia's Cher on this short and sweet soundbite from a film that was the rage towards the end of the decade. The snappy bass and drum combo give the tune a novel sound for a fifties-style song hitting #1 in April of 1978. It's two-minutes and forty seven seconds of producer/writer John Farrar showing his complete comprehension of what was needed for the film Grease. RSO single #891 went platinum and was covered by such notables as Patti Austin and Brenda Lee which is the bigger compliment to the team of Olivia Newton-John and John Farrar. After incessant radio spins this cheeky epic couldn't help but become annoying, Travolta having to take some responsibility for that, but it was an "instant oldie" and holds up as such decades after it was recorded.

"Barefoot In Baltimore"

Barefoot in Baltimore
Heel and toe with you

Summer turns the stove on
And fun begins to cook
Barefoot walks in Baltimore
With empty pocketbook
Laugh at sizzling sidewalks
Don't step on the cracks
Old folks try to catch their breath
As children catch their jacks

Barefoot in Baltimore
Heel and toe with you

Baltimore is music
Dancing in the street
Half-chewed Dubble Bubble
Tugging at our feet
Melted tar in crosswalks
Crab shells in the park
Pavement frying our poor toes
Until long after dark

Barefoot in Baltimore
Heel and toe with you

When night comes we can go walking
On the shores of Chesapeake Bay
A silence tailored for talking
And a love with so much to say

Barefoot in Baltimore
Heel and toe with you
