...FROM THE DESK OF THE PRODUCER, JOE VIGLIONE
I created Demo That Got the Deal back in 1991, we launched October 6, 1991 with David Minehan of The Neighborhoods on 93.7 FM WCGY when sportscaster Curt Gowdy owned the station. It's now in 2022 Sports Radio WEEI, thirty-one years later.
What's interesting is that the Demo that Got the A & R man for Third Stone/Atlantic, a label owned by actor Michael Douglas, was yours truly. A & R man Steev Riccardo wanted to pitch Enigma Records to work for them. So he drove up from Cape Cod and met in my rock and roll kitchen at 30 Dragon Court, Woburn, and I put him on the phone with Paul Marotta. Paul was willing to give him an interview and said "If he doesn't work out, we're dropping your label" - which, of course, was a joke. But Greenworld Distribution did go bankrupt so I never got paid for the albums, go figure, even though we went Top 10 in Mexico City.
Steev went on to get hired and signed Poison and a bunch of other acts. Then on to Third Stone / Atlantic signing Boston's The Neighborhoods whose first Boston show was opening for yours truly at Cantones back in the 1970s, and opening for me again Dec 2, 1978 at Paradise!

Not only did we help get Steev Riccardo the job that got him to sign Poison (Enigma) and
The Neighborhoods (Third Stone/Atlantic,) we interviewed former police commissioner Ed Davis and taped the lecture from Mr. Douglas for Visual Radio!

Pop Singer Fails to Strike a Chord Despite the Millions Spent by MCA

MARINA DEL REY, Calif. -- Eighteen-year-old recording artist Carly Hennessy is packing up her small apartment. Her promotional posters will go into storage, and the beige rental couch will be returned. A weight-control message that the slender teen scrawled in marker on the refrigerator -- "NO, U R FAT" -- will be wiped clean.
For two years, Vivendi Universal SA's MCA Records paid the rent here while Ms. Hennessy prepared for pop stardom. And that's not all: The label so far has spent about $2.2 million to make and market her new album, an upbeat pop recording called "Ultimate High." "Some people just struggle," she says. "I was very, very lucky."

ELTON JOHN REMASTERS
Sue [Roger's partner]: Is the vinyl of Rock of the Westies from the original tapes [master]?
Gus: Oh yes, but it is the master that has since been lost. Which is unbelievable.
Tour organiser Alan MacCormick: I want to ask a supplementary question. When you did the remastering of 17-11-70 you only added one extra track. There are another six. Why?
Gus: Good spotting. Well I don't like them.
Audience: Ha!
Alan: Well there are a lot of people in this room who do.
Gus: Well, that's their problem! I'm sure you've got it on bootleg somewhere, haven't you?
Audience: Ha!
