Dear Public Health Officer in Cambridge and/or Custodian of Records
Under the Massachusetts Public Records Act § 66-10 et seq., I am requesting an opportunity to inspect or obtain copies of public records that
1)All public records that Dancing In The Dark LLC, owners of the Cantab Lounge, abided by proper COVID Protocols
all documents and correspondences via e mail, text, or any other means with city officials, including but not limited to memos and regular U.S. Mail
2)All public records regarding the alleged Covid outbreak which happened after Opening night, December 2021
at the Cantab Lounge Mass. Ave Cambridge, all documents written by government officials or doctors who work for the city, any documents that the public needs to see regarding the failure of the club to require masks - as noted at the front door. Photographs of unmasked patrons are available, and were on the internet. I need all documents in the city's possession regarding this
3)All public records that Tim Dibble was in touch with the city in regards to the alleged Covid outbreak and that Tim Dibble, owner, was the "good neighbor" that he promised to be when I, a former employee, was ordered not to mention that there was a COVID outbreak at the club by co-managerAndrea Ballotta. They hushed it up, allegedly, and threatened our jobs if we said anything, while Dibble promised to be a good neighbor. Yet Dibble doesn't allow staff to do anything without his oversight, allegedly.
example from the press:
A Covid-19 exposure has closed The Cantab Lounge until 5 p.m. Dec. 30, the newly reopened bar said Wednesday. That brings it back in time for a Chicken Slacks performance and next-day New Year’s Eve party with the band Summer of George – but means skipping this week’s Thursday residency with the Slacks’ classic soul/funk sound.
The Cantab announced its reopening last week over three nights, welcoming back old friends, new acquaintances and a typically boisterous live music atmosphere. Thursday marked what felt like the true arrival of the rejuvenated Cantab, drawing in thirsty passersby with a rip-roaring performance from Chicken Slacks for the first time since early 2020
If there are any fees for searching or copying these records, please inform me if the cost will exceed $_5.00 However, I would also like to request a waiver of all fees in that the disclosure of the requested information is in the public interest and will contribute significantly to the public’s understanding of how the city of Cambridge safeguards and protects citizens and patrons of its businesses. Also, I am a long-time member of the press, quoted in the NY Times, Boston Globe and published in thousands and thousands of publications (NY Times.com online, Boston Globe, Rollingstone.com, Real Paper / Cambridge, etc. etc. etc.)
The Massachusetts Public Records Act requires a response to this request within 10 days. If access to the records I am requesting will take longer than this amount of time, please contact me with information about when I might expect copies or the ability to inspect the requested records.
If you deny any or all of this request, please cite each specific exemption you feel justifies the refusal to release the information and notify me of the appeal procedures available to me under the law.
Thank you for considering my request.
Sincerely,
Joe Viglione
