The
8 CD Jewel Box, a new Elton John boxed set, has 60 unreleased tracks.
Perhaps a Public Broadcast special would get the word out on this.
Prolific is Elton's middle name. Cool honky tonk piano in "Thank You,"
three minutes and twenty seven seconds with band accompaniment. As with
the Rolling Stones' outtakes these lost gems would be some of the best
material unknown bands could hope to generate. Interesting.
"Hourglass," this could also fit on an Elton John Wizard of Oz-intense CD, from the Witch's castle with Dorothy, of course. 2:47 in time, and it goes without saying that the early Small Faces with Steve Marriott or Eddy Pumer's Kaleidoscope could have covered this; Wayne Wadham's Fifth Estate from Connecticut, this is vintage 60's Brit Rock ...nice effects and playing by the band accompanying Elton
Elton John Jewel Box "Scarecrow" is 3 minutes and twelve seconds, piano and tambourine, very good song lost through the ages. Too bad Elton and presumably Bernie didn't put it in a Wizard of Oz story (more L. Frank Baum than Goodbye Yellow Brick Road) ...they still can.
"Holiday Inn" 4:34
