Order of Show
8 PM Andrew Eckel and Jonah Sacks
9 PM Ghost Town
10 PM Nick Joliat and Dan Wick
11 PM The Wild Allegations

ANDREW ECKEL AND JONAH SACKS
Andrew Eckel is a composer and singer living in Cambridge, MA. His live performances incorporate singing, piano playing, dancing, and spoken word. He will be joined on half of his songs by cellist Jonah Sacks, who rules.

GHOST TOWN
Ghost Town pushes the boundaries of brass music into new territory. We keep the New Orleans street band vibe while also featuring high-energy tunes from pop, jazz, soul, hip-hop and more. Punchy, funky and rhythmic, we get people on their feet dancing!

NICK JOLIAT AND DAN WICK
Nick Joliat is a composer/improviser/keyboardist who is pursuing the expressive and technical outer limits of toy electronic keyboards.  He will be joined on some pieces by Dan Wick, a multi-instrumentalist who performs in Boston's experimental improvisation scene and in post-rock band The Numbers Have Names.
THE WILD ALLEGATIONS
The Wild Allegations are a scrappy rock n’ roll band from Boston, MA, led by the remarkably powerful vocals of lead singer Sarah Craig. They've been described by concert-goers as "Jimi Hendrix meets Janis Joplin".

SEDAGIVE - the band

Sedagive review: Sedagive is a band that plays Western, Mass, and they are looking to come our way. George Lenides sent me the Spotify and it knocked me out, instantly, which doesn’t happen often. Power pop, Pop Rock, Sunshine Pop? Sedagive has all the elements! The song “Massachusetts” opens up the 5 song e.p. entitled SUMMERS OVER (no apostrophe on summer’s) – so here’s a Tiny URL https://tinyurl.com/sedagivemusic check it out. “Massachusetts” has flavors of Bob Lind, sixties star whose birthday is Nov. 25, day I’m writing this. “Flowers” follows, and it’s upbeat, bright and rocks smoothly…with delicate and elegant musicianship and vocals. “Nine” also has the sparkling guitars, a “Girl from Ipanema” feel with vocals out of Pere Ubu or Psychedelic Furs, but just a touch, more pop than new wave…delightful. “Little Angel” goes to more hard-driving Beatles by way of the Seeds or Paul Revere & The Raiders…these guys know how to change rock genres in an instant…and, no, “This Girl” is not an answer to John, Paul, George and Ringo’s “This Boy” – I can’t place my finger on the influences at this moment, listened last night too and can’t figure it out, but it is highly listenable and worth your attention…reminds me of how great the music of Steve Dennis is, so let’s go there. https://thesomervillenewsweekly.blog/2019/11/26/hotline-to-the-underground-week-6-by-joe-viglione/

INXS in Theaters!
INXS: Live Baby Live.

It's taking place Monday, December 9.
INXS NT KeyArt 1920x1080
Tickets are now on sale for the iconic 1991 INXS concert film Live Baby Live, in theaters one-night-only nationwide on Monday, December 9 at 7:00PM local time.
Six years to the day of Live Aid and five years and a day since the band supported Queen at Wembley Stadium, INXS headlined their own show at the famed venue to a sold-out crowd of 73,791 crazed fans. The event, called Summer XS, was immortalized in the best-selling concert film Live Baby Live, directed by David Mallet.
Twenty-eight years later, the film has been painstakingly restored from the original 35mm negative. The film is now presented in glorious cinematic widescreen, created by going through the film shot by shot and repositioning every single one to get the best out of the frame. The remastered film has also had the audio remixed in stunning surround sound by audio producers Giles Martin and Sam Okell at London’s famed Abbey Road Studios. The restoration process unveiled a “lost” performance, which was not included in the original releases – “Lately” from the X album. It is now returned to its rightful position in the concert set list.
Tickets for “INXS: Live Baby Live at Wembley Stadium” can be purchased at INXScinema.com or participating theater box offices. For a complete list of theater locations visit the Fathom Events website (theaters and participants are subject to change).

WASTEBUDS
Somerville's own Dave David Goldenberg and his Wastebuds created “Mini Bowl A Go Go” sounds like a perfect song for Club Bohemia. The band states: we are Wastebuds and we play loud as fxxx Punk Rock!!! Jackson:Drums, Connor: Guitar David:Vocals – they sound like another generation’s Gizmos and “Mini Bowl AGoGo” – all three minutes of it – sounds like a reincarnated Gizmos’ “Mxxx Divin’ in Wilkie South.” Towards the end of the song the punk devolves into grunge. Cool stuff…

John LaPrade  SOUL SHAKER

When a perfect pop/rock song like “Soul Shaker” comes along it’s hard to express to people in words what a fun experience they’re in for. But with the internet and artists posting the music to hear for free a great production and solid piece of songwriting like this has a chance to emerge and conquer the planet. Go to JohnLaprade.com to check it out. For those who love “Soul Shake” by Delaney & Bonnie (the lp To Bonnie from Delaney) or the quintessential Flamin’ Groovies track “Shake Some Action” (the 45 RPM from the U.K., more than the Sire lp title track), this could be the parallel world sequel to the Groovies song of love and lust. With Laprade on vocals, electric guitar, Rich Pagano on drums, bassist John Conte and backing vocals by Michael Miller, Barney Miller and Laprade, this song has all the elements. My favorite new release from an artist I’ve not heard of before so far in 2011…it’s just totally brilliant pop and landed on the #1 spot on my JoeVigTop40 blog for May.

The first video is for “Blind”, another excellent song with great production from Robert L. Smith (producer for Stacey Rose, engineer for Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Carly Simon, Spin Doctors; re-mixer for David Bowie etc) – hooks galore and solid words power this well balanced collection of ten songs. Television’s Richard Lloyd shows up on “Knock You Down” with some very Television-esque Roxy Music-without-the-keyboards groove in a different setting. “Anything At All” is a folksy Kenny Rankin-type number, a brief two minute and ten second chance of pace that works very nicely on this collection. But it is “Anytime”, track 9, is as good a track as “Soul Shaker”, but in a different way. With flavors of the great Jerry Ross’s production work on Keith of 98.6 fame, featuring the exuberance felt on “Live” by the Merry Go Round or “Have I The Right” by the Honeycombs (though not the groove, just the feel and majesty and similar vocal) sunshine pop with a Beatle-esque piano, “Anytime” is something the summer of 2011 desperately needs to fill in the gaps. If radio and the supermarkets overplayed “You’re Beautiful” by James Blunt (over 16 million spins on YouTube), why are the programmers not out searching for something as exquisite as this?

Producer Smith engineered one of my all-time favorite Christmas songs, “All Alone On Christmas” from Home Alone 2, which got heavy play on AM 1570 WNSH when I was program director up there back in the day…it’s great to see his sublime production work on artists like the aforementioned Stacie Rose as well as Monica Ott and now Laprade (and others). Robert L. Smith, Jr. is a producer to watch…he’s got the ear and he’s finding extra special artists to work with. John Laprade’s World Class Faker is impressive, despite its deceptive title. Encore. http://www.tmrzoo.com/2011/25745/john-laprade%E2%80%99s-world-class-faker-is-the-real-thing
